Launch scheduled for spring 2013 with online multiplayer

We have decided to postpone ibb and obb’s release.
“But why, wasn’t the game almost done?”

It is actually almost done, but looking at our current schedule we’d be able to release in November or December. Many people have warned us about releasing in these months, because the marketplace tends to fill up with many big releases. We have a very limited (non existent) marketing budget and it would be hard for us to get noticed this time of year.

Another thing people have been sceptical about is releasing the game without online multiplayer. Even though we strongly feel that playing together in the same room is the best way to play ibb and obb, it is true that most people expect online multiplayer in a Playstation Network game.

So we’ve decided to change our release plan and to add online multiplayer at launch. Technically this is a lot of extra work. Creating a smooth online experience is not the easiest of tasks. It will take some time to get this right.

The next few weeks we’ll start our first online tests, based on this we’ll be able to better predict when all will be ready. Right now we think it’ll be spring.

The waiting will be still a bit longer, but we think it is the right thing to do now.

    Ik ben blij dat jullie dit doen. C;
Want al zouden jullie niet op dag 1 online co-op hebben. Zal hij stukken minder verkopen. En dat is zonde voor zon leuke game.

You know, I think that’s a valid concern, considering the lack of advertising budget. it isn’t easy to get noticed.

The trailer for the game is amazing though, and I think when more people see it, it could really get people’s attention. That’s all it took for me to be convinced.

I have always loved the idea of a platformer that requires co-op, rather than making it an afterthought.

Re: online multiplayer. To me, this a big draw. I get the idea that it’s better in person, but with a headset, it’s almost as good. I guess the tricky part is ensuring there is no lag when you’re attempting precise jumps, etc.

I’m really excited anyway. Thanks for the update.

Oh man….I was looking to purchase your game sooner than that.

Who cares for online games? I know, a lot of people. I like REAL Co-OP games (not ONLINE co-op)…but I realize I’ll have to wait a lot for that….oh well.

I do NOT play any online games…got bored of that. Nothing better than play something with someone by your side…

j’ai eu le plaisir d’y jouer avec ma famille à la gaité lyrique il y a plusieurs mois! J’en garde le souvenir d’un moment génial.
PAS de jeu ONLINE mis du partage à 2 d’un super bon moment.
    On attends encore alors!

I saw the preview for this game in GameStop over the weekend. I was really looking forward to purchasing this for the kids for Christmas. I guess instead, we’ll be buying the “Unfinished Swan” for them.

Been checking back here for the past 6 months. Any news? Any more precise release date? “Spring 2013″ is getting pretty close you know ;-)

  10. #10 by admin - March 9th, 2013 at 06:31

    Hi Lemo,

We’re getting there. This month we have an extra programmer on board and hope to finish everything by the end of the month. From there it’ll still need to pass Sony’s quality checks. Not sure yet how long that will take, but things look like a May release. As soon as things become more clear we’ll post more updates on the site.

Glad you’re still checking back now and then : )

A may release is awesome to hear! Good luck meeting your deadlines. I’ll just say, my wife has been asking me about once a month when the “up and downy game” is going to come out. She’s pretty excited about it… as am I! :)

Hey guys, I’ve been keeping my eye on Ibb and Obb, and I’m quite excited. I’ve been spreading word off Ibb and Obb for a while now, and I understand the constrictions of having close to no marketing budget.

Crowd-source promotion may well increase consumer awareness, perhaps something to look into. As soon as I graduate (2 months left) I’m looking to design/create my own game. Hoping all the indie-friendly PS4 rumours turn out to be accurate.

Either way, you guys have 1 sale right here, and about 6 more of people I was able to convince. Good luck. It’s about time The Netherlands is put on the map for something other than Killzone, Overlord and A2 racer ;)

    Hey Richard and Team,

“Spring 2013″ has sprung! Excited for the game release. Any updates?

Out of curiosity, will this be a Playstation only release? Any plan for a PC release? Steam maybe?

Spring has indeed started. We’re sending a first test build to Sony this week. The results will tell us more about when we can release. But unfortunately we won’t manage an end May release. When things become a bit more concrete I’ll update with a new post.

    Hi Eshan,

We’ll release on PS3 first and then work on finishing the PC version. Most likely that will launch on Steam. Not sure how long it’s going to take us though.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for spreading the word : ) We can use all the attention we can get. So far Sony has been really helpful through blog posts, showing the game at certain events and getting the trailer on kiosks at Best Buy and other US stores.
Word of mouth will be so important to us. No marketeer can beat a player who likes your game.

Good luck with graduating and the time after. Creating games isn’t necessarily the easiest choice, but I can’t think of anything I’d rather do.

My wife and I are also really excited to play this game (on the PC). Keep it up!

This game looks really well designed, and I’m looking forward to seeing it out! I saw something showing this game on a playstation site, and it looked really good. Only problem was that it was hard to find the name of the game from the video… I was waiting for it to show up at the end, but it wasn’t there… (this is the development trailer one where you show the game evolving). Fortunately I was able to look at the video again. Also would love vita support as well! A lot of the point is that the vita’s d-pad and buttons are amazing, and this game just seems to go along with the system. I’d love to play with someone on a PS3 with my vita. But either way you’ve got my support!

You should really port this game to Ouya! Would be perfect for that console! Would buy it directly

Last time I commented here I was told on how there was an extra programmer, some last bits of coding and how everything still needed to pass Sony’s quality tests.

It’s the last day of May now, and I was wondering where I could find out what delayed the release this time / in what stage of the process this game is now… Give it a few more months and I’ve been waiting for this for a year ‘-’

  22. #22 by admin - June 5th, 2013 at 08:07

Hi, we had some delays. Mostly multiplayer things turning out to be even more work than expected. Also from the design point there was just too much small stuff to finish it earlier.

Right now we have submitted a first test build to Sony. We are fixing the last things and hope to be done with all in two weeks. A release date then depends on how we go through Sony’s tests.

So yes we missed spring and the release won’t happen before half July and possible even later if we need more time to go through the QA tests.

Sorry for the waiting. Basically these last parts are just a lot more work than expected.
